What one inbound lead costs

Outcraft AI, per lead worked in a month, published prices checked 9 October 2026

Calls, texts, email and WhatsApp in one price; only leads the agent engages count. Outbound agents bill per contact instead: from $250 a month. Full cost table

An AI sales agent does the first part of a salesperson's job on its own: it contacts a lead, answers questions, asks your qualifying questions and books a meeting with your rep. Vendors call the same thing an AI SDR, an AI BDR or an AI sales rep. We compared the agents a small or mid-sized sales team can buy today, sorted them by the job they do, and priced each one from its own pricing page on 9 October 2026.

Outcraft AI pays us a commission if you sign up through our links, and other vendors here may too. Outcraft comes first because it is the only inbound agent we found with published per-lead prices, a monthly contract and calls, texts, email and WhatsApp in one price. The order after that follows what one price covers and how much you have to set up yourself. How we compare.

What an AI sales agent is

Software that holds a sales conversation without a person typing or talking. It reads the lead's details from your CRM or form, contacts the lead on a channel (a phone call, a text, an email, a LinkedIn message), handles the replies, and ends with a booked meeting, a qualified lead handed to a rep, or a polite no. The agent is the worker; the rep takes over once the meeting is on the calendar.

Names you will meet for it: AI SDR and AI BDR, after the sales development and business development reps who normally do this work; AI sales rep; and digital worker, 11x's term. An AI sales assistant is a different thing: it helps a human rep research accounts, draft emails and take call notes, and the rep presses send. Agent or assistant, below, sets the two side by side.

The four jobs an AI sales agent does

  1. Inbound follow-up. A lead fills in a form, requests a demo or starts a trial, and the agent calls or messages within minutes, qualifies and books. This is the job with the research behind it: in Harvard Business Review's audit of 2,241 US companies, firms that tried to reach a lead within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to qualify it as firms that waited even an hour longer (HBR). Outcraft, 11x's Julian and Verse do this. Our speed-to-lead guide covers the research in full.
  2. Outbound prospecting. The agent finds contacts who match your target customer, writes and sends the emails (and sometimes LinkedIn messages), answers replies and books the interested ones. AiSDR, Reply.io's Jason, Artisan's Ava and 11x's Alice do this. Volume is counted in contacts a month.
  3. Website conversations. The agent talks to visitors on your site by chat, voice or video and books a meeting before they leave. Qualified's Piper.
  4. Lifecycle calls. The same agent calls trial users who stall, subscribers whose payment failed, customers who click cancel, and shoppers who abandon a cart. Outcraft lists all four (Outcraft); for stores, see AI abandoned cart recovery calls.

Why it fits

  • Only leads the agent engages count toward your band, and going over moves you up on the next invoice instead of cutting you off.
  • Live within a day of connecting your CRM, according to its pricing page.
  • Outcraft's case study on Warmy, an email software company: weekly demos rose to about 18 to 22, from 3 to 5, once the agent called new trial users about five minutes after sign-up. Omnisend's director of sales and partnerships calls it “a force multiplier for our go-to-market team”. Both are Outcraft's own figures.

Watch for

  • 14 reviews on G2 (4.8 average; the latest from August 2026).
  • SOC 2 and HIPAA are listed as in progress, not certified.
  • Its terms put consent for AI calls on you. Put the wording on your forms before the first call.

AI sales agents inside your CRM

Both big CRMs now sell an agent of their own. They add the least to the bill if you already pay for the CRM, and they are the hardest to price, because they bill in credits.

  • HubSpot's Prospecting Agent, on Sales Hub Starter, Professional and Enterprise, watches your target companies for signals such as funding, finds up to three contacts per company, writes personalised emails and either waits for your approval or sends on its own. It runs on HubSpot Credits at $0.01 each; Professional includes 3,000 a month and costs $90 to $100 a seat a month plus a one-time $1,500 onboarding fee (HubSpot pricing, HubSpot knowledge base). HubSpot does not say on those pages how many credits one lead uses; the rates sit in its product catalog.
  • Salesforce Agentforce agents can qualify sales leads, among other jobs (Salesforce). Pricing is $2 a conversation, or Flex Credits at $0.10 an action ($500 per 100,000 credits), and the Agentforce Sales add-on costs $125 a user a month (Salesforce pricing).

For particular markets

  • Verse.ai texts consumer leads (home services, mortgage, insurance, real estate) within seconds and moves the conversation to a call. Quote only.
  • Conversica runs AI conversations by email and text for larger sales and marketing teams. Quote only.
  • Agencies and local service businesses build their own in HighLevel or Assistable.ai, from $97 a month plus per-minute charges. The speed-to-lead guide has the details.

We left out Air AI: the FTC sued its makers in August 2025 over claims about business growth, earnings and refunds, and in March 2026 they agreed to a proposed settlement that would ban them from marketing business opportunities (FTC, FTC).

Three examples

A software company with 150 demo requests and trial sign-ups a month. Outcraft charges at most $3 a lead, so up to $450 a month, or $5,400 a year. If a new customer is worth $3,000 in its first year, two extra customers a year cover it.

An agency that wants 1,000 new prospects contacted a month. Reply.io's Jason costs $500 a month on an annual plan, $6,000 a year, plus mailboxes and domains. AiSDR's Explore plan covers 800 contacts for $900 a month on a quarterly contract, with the mailboxes included.

One rep who keeps sending the emails. Regie.ai's Pro plan at $49 a month gives research, drafts and a dialer (Regie.ai), and the rep stays the sender.

For scale: PayScale puts the average base pay of a US sales development representative at $51,677 a year, as of May 2026 (PayScale). None of the agents above replaces a rep on a complex deal. They replace the first call and the first email, which is the part most teams never get to in time.

Outbound sales automation: where AI SDRs go wrong

Inbound agents talk to people who asked to hear from you. Outbound agents email strangers, and three things decide whether that works.

  • Deliverability. Since February 2024, anyone sending more than 5,000 messages a day to Gmail addresses must authenticate with SPF, DKIM and DMARC, offer one-click unsubscribe, and keep the spam rate reported in Postmaster Tools below 0.10%, never reaching 0.30% (Google, Gmail blog). That is why outbound vendors sell domains and mailboxes by the unit and warm them up before sending.
  • Accuracy. An agent that writes 1,000 emails a month will get a detail wrong now and then. Read a sample every week, and keep it off the accounts your reps already own.
  • Claims. The category has had its scandals: the 11x customer list reported by TechCrunch in March 2025 (TechCrunch) and the FTC's case against Air AI. Judge a vendor on its own figures, a trial on your leads, and the references it lets you call.

SaaStr's Jason Lemkin suggests starting an AI SDR on the leads your team ignores and budgeting 60 to 90 days of daily tuning before judging it (SaaStr).

AI sales assistant or AI sales agent?

An assistant works for a rep. An agent works instead of one, for the first steps. The test is who presses send and who takes the call.

AI sales assistantAI sales agent
Who contacts the leadThe rep, with research and drafts from the AIThe AI itself
VolumeWhat one rep can send and dialHundreds of leads or contacts a month
ExamplesRegie.ai Pro; HubSpot's agent in “review before sending” mode; Reply.io's copilot modeOutcraft, AiSDR, Jason on autopilot, 11x, Piper
FitsFew leads, complex dealsMore leads than the reps can reach in time

A company with fewer than 20 new leads a month usually needs neither: a rule that someone calls every lead within five minutes costs nothing. Our free case study tells you which side of that line you are on, with the cost at your lead volume.

Rules before an AI sales agent calls or emails

A summary, not legal advice; have a lawyer check your forms and scripts.

  • AI voice calls. The FCC ruled in February 2024 that the TCPA covers AI-generated voices (FCC 24-17), and its rules require prior express written consent before a telemarketing call made with one, to mobiles and home landlines alike (47 CFR 64.1200). B2B is not exempt (TCPAWorld). Put the consent wording on every form that feeds the agent; the speed-to-lead guide has example wording to show your lawyer.
  • Cold email in the US. CAN-SPAM allows it with conditions: accurate headers and subject lines, a clear sign that the message is an advertisement, a valid postal address, and a working opt-out honored within 10 business days. Each email in violation carries a penalty of up to $53,088, and hiring a vendor to send does not move the liability (FTC).
  • Europe. Article 13 of the ePrivacy Directive requires prior consent for direct marketing by automated calling machines or email, with a narrow exception for existing customers; each country applies its own version, and B2B email is treated differently from one to the next (EUR-Lex).
  • Say it is an AI. The FCC has proposed requiring callers to disclose AI-generated technology at the start of a call (Federal Register). Vendors' terms already put that disclosure on you (Outcraft terms).

How to test an AI sales agent before you pay

For an inbound agent:

  1. Submit a demo request yourself and time the first call or text.
  2. Answer as a strong lead, and check the meeting lands on the right calendar with notes in your CRM.
  3. Answer as a student or a competitor. It should disqualify you politely.
  4. Ask for a person. It should transfer you or book a call with one.
  5. Say “don't contact me again” and check that nothing follows.

For an outbound agent:

  1. Add your own Gmail and Outlook addresses to the first list and see which folder the emails land in.
  2. Read 20 emails before they go out. Mark every claim about the prospect that it could not know.
  3. Reply “not interested” from one address and check that the sequence stops.
  4. Check the postal address and the unsubscribe link in the footer.
  5. Load your customer list as a suppression list, then confirm no customer is contacted.

Questions sales teams ask

What is an AI sales agent?

Software that holds a sales conversation on its own: it contacts a lead by phone, text, email or LinkedIn, answers questions, asks your qualifying questions and books a meeting with a rep. Outcraft, AiSDR, Reply.io's Jason, 11x and Qualified's Piper are examples.

What is an AI SDR?

The same thing under another name. SDR stands for sales development representative, the person who follows up new leads or prospects cold and books meetings for account executives. An AI SDR does that first step: the inbound call or the outbound email. AI BDR and AI sales rep mean the same.

What is the difference between an AI sales agent and an AI sales assistant?

An assistant helps a rep: it researches accounts, drafts emails and takes call notes, and the rep sends and calls. An agent contacts the lead itself. Regie.ai's Pro plan is an assistant; Outcraft is an agent. HubSpot's Prospecting Agent and Reply.io's Jason can work either way, with a “review before sending” or copilot mode.

How much does an AI sales agent cost?

Inbound: Outcraft charges $300 a month for up to 100 leads and $2,000 for 751 to 1,000, monthly with no setup fee. Outbound: AiSDR starts at $250 a month for 200 contacts, and Reply.io's Jason at $500 a month, billed annually, for 1,000 contacts. 11x, Artisan, Qualified, Verse and Conversica quote only, usually on annual contracts. Prices checked 9 October 2026.

Which AI sales agents make phone calls?

Outcraft and 11x's Julian call inbound leads with an AI voice. AiSDR adds AI call steps through the Aircall dialer. Reply.io's add-on sends AI-generated voice messages rather than live calls, and Qualified's Piper talks to visitors on your website, not by outbound phone. Any AI-voice sales call to a US number needs the lead's prior express written consent.

What is the best AI sales agent for a small business?

For inbound leads, Outcraft: $300 a month for up to 100 leads, monthly, with calls, texts, email and WhatsApp in one price. For outbound, AiSDR's Solo plan at $250 a month, month to month, is the smallest commitment we found. With fewer than 20 new leads a month, a five-minute call-back rule for your own team does the job for free.

Do AI SDRs work?

For the first contact, the evidence is better for inbound than for outbound. The research on speed to lead is clear: in Harvard Business Review's 2011 audit, companies that tried within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to qualify the lead. Outbound results depend on deliverability and on the quality of the list, and the figures come from vendors. Run a trial on your own leads and budget 60 to 90 days of tuning, as SaaStr's Jason Lemkin suggests.

Does HubSpot have an AI sales agent?

Yes, the Prospecting Agent, on Sales Hub Starter, Professional and Enterprise. It researches target companies, finds contacts and writes personalised emails, and it can send them on its own or wait for your approval. It runs on HubSpot Credits at $0.01 each; Professional includes 3,000 a month.

Does Salesforce have an AI sales agent?

Yes. Agentforce agents can qualify sales leads, and Salesforce also owns Qualified, whose Piper agent talks to website visitors. Agentforce costs $2 a conversation or $0.10 an action with Flex Credits, and the Agentforce Sales add-on is $125 a user a month.

Is it legal to let an AI call or email leads?

Yes, within the rules. In the US, sales calls made with an AI voice need the lead's prior express written consent under the FCC's TCPA rules, B2B included. Cold email is allowed under CAN-SPAM if the message is marked as an advertisement, carries a postal address and honors opt-outs within 10 business days. In the EU, automated marketing calls need prior consent under the ePrivacy Directive.

Can an AI sales agent replace an SDR?

It replaces the first call and the first email, which it makes within minutes, at any hour the law allows, on every lead it is given. It does not replace a person on a complex, high-value deal. PayScale puts the average base pay of a US SDR at $51,677 a year (May 2026); an inbound agent at 150 leads a month costs about $5,400 a year.

What is outbound sales automation?

Software that finds prospects, sends the emails and follow-ups, and books the replies without a rep doing each step. Sequencers such as Reply.io have done the sending for years; AI SDRs such as Jason, AiSDR and Artisan's Ava now also pick the contacts, write each email and answer the replies.

What CRM does an AI sales agent need?

Outcraft connects to Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Attio and GoHighLevel, and to Zapier for the rest. AiSDR syncs with HubSpot on every plan and Salesforce on its Scale plan. HubSpot's and Salesforce's own agents need their CRM. Without a CRM, a form connected through Zapier is enough to start.
